A partir da década de 80 do século XX, no estudo de flutuações econômicaspassou-se a utilizar uma nova metodologia, que apresentava uma estrutura de equilíbriogeral dinâmico estocástico que enfatizava o comportamento otimizador dos agenteseconômicos, em um ambiente de incerteza. Exemplos desse tipo de abordagem são osmodelos conhecidos como RBC. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar a estrutura teóricado modelo RBC e fazer algumas simulações para comparar tal economia artificial comos dados reais da economia. Os resultados da economia real mostraram que as variáveis“consumo” e “investimento” são pró-cíclicas e que “investimento” apresentou maiorvolatilidade que “consumo”. As variáveis “rendimento real” e “horas pagas” tambémforam pró-cíclicas, sendo esta segunda variável mais volátil. As economias artificiaisanalisadas, por sua vez, foram o modelo RBC, de Hansen, com o trabalho indivisível eo modelo de crescimento neoclássico estocástico.
