Tendências na implementação fonética de consoantes nasais em Tupí-GuaraníABSTRACT: This study adresses some tendencies found in phonetic implementations of the nasal consonants /m, n, ŋ/ in the Tupi-Guaraní family. Based on an acoustic analysis of Parakanã and Tembe (subgroup IV), Urubu-Ka'apor and Wayampi (subgroup VIII), Asuriní Xingu, Anambé and Araweté (subgroup V), it was observed the presence of two types of nasal realizations: full nasal, with or without oral explosion, and partially oralized nasals, with pre-or post-oralization. All the languages realize plain nasals, but partial oralization emerged only in the subgroups IV and V, with one distinction: the languages from subgroup IV, Tembe and Parakanã presented full and pre-oralized variants; and the languages from subgroup V, Anambé and Asuriní Xingu, had full and post-oralized variants. No language expressed the combination of the three types together. These results offer further support to the division of the Tupi-Guaraní subgroups proposed by Rodrigues and Cabral (2002). Keywords: Nasal consonats; Phonetic implementation; Tupí-Guaraní family.
