COMPARATIVE ENERGY ANALYSIS FOR SOYBEAN JOURNEY TRANSPORTABSTRACT: The present work had as goal to study the energy flows about routes for soybean transport, at the Brazil middle-west region, from Rio Verde (GO) to Santos (SP). Two routes for analysis had been selected: a multimodality way (highway, railway and waterway modals), and one modality way (highway modal). The conversion of physical and operational factors in energetic unities was obtained in literature, by means energy coefficients. Initially, comparing the results obtained into multimodal way (route-1), the highway transport presented the largest energy expense specific (0.50 MJ km -1 t -1 ), followed by railway (0.42 MJ km -1 t -1 ) and, finally, the waterway (0.22 MJ km -1 t -1 ). For route-2 (one modal transport), the results indicated 0.50 MJ km -1 t -1 by the highway. Comparing the analyzed routes, the total specific energy spends by the route-2 (0.50 MJ km -1 t -1 ) it was greater than that one by route-1 (0.34 MJ km -1 t -1 ).KEYWORDS: multimodal transport, highway, railway, waterway, soybean transport, energy analysis.
ENERGY DEMANDS IN ETHANOL LOGISTICS FROM MIDWEST BRAZIL TO EXPORTABSTRACT: In the coming years, one of the greatest challenges for agribusiness will be to improve the logistical infrastructure, once major difficulties are currently faced in production transport. In the case of ethanol, Brazil has a logistics covering multimodal transport, terminals and routes that strengthen the export corridor. Thus, this paper analyzed the energy demands in ethanol outflow transport considering routes currently designed, under construction or in operation, in order to flow ethanol outputs from Midwest Brazil (Aparecida do Taboado-MS) to the port of São Sebastião (SP). Four routes were analyzed considering uni-or multimodal transport systems, which involved road, railway, waterway, and pipeline. Direct and indirect energy factors within transport operations were used to account the system inputs and outputs, which were diesel, indirect energy from machinery and equipment, labor energy, electricity, besides energy depreciation and maintenance of roads. The results highlighted the pipeline as being the modal of less energy expenditure and the road of most consumption. The waterway and railway modes also had a feasible energetic performance whether compared to the road transport.KEY WORDS: transport logistics, biofuel, pipeline, energy demand.
