RESUMO INTRODUÇÃO: A Síndrome da Imunodeficiência Adquirida (AIDS) é caracterizada pela infecção por um vírus chamado Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), que é um vírus capaz de infectar seres humanos, com genoma RNA da família retrovírus, que, para se multiplicar, necessita de uma enzima, a transcriptase-reversa. Esta, por sua vez, transforma esse RNA viral em uma cópia do DNA, integrando-o ao genoma do seu hospedeiro. A mulher pode transmitir esse vírus para o bebê durante a gestação, o parto ou até mesmo amamentação. Existem medidas profiláticas para a prevenção da saúde das crianças e das gestantes, dentre elas se destacam o pré-natal de alto risco com uso de terapia antirretroviral, os cuidados durante o parto, a não amamentação e o acompanhamento do recém-nascido até os 2 anos de idade. OBJETIVO: Analisar a prevenção da transmissão vertical do HIV, listando os meios de prevenção da transmissão vertical do HIV mencionados na literatura. METODOLOGIA: Esse estudo refere-se a uma revisão integrativa sobre os fatores que interferem na transmissão vertical para o HIV, que visa à análise de estudos relevantes para a síntese do conhecimento sobre o assunto, constatando as falhas que devem ser reparadas com a realização de novos estudos para melhor prevenção do vírus. Para a realização dessa revisão, foram utilizados o banco de dados nacionais disponíveis a partir da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), PubMed/U.S. National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (Lilacs), com os critérios de inclusão sendo documentos do tipo artigo, não convencional, tese, monografia, congresso e conferência publicados em português com texto completo disponível, de 2014 a 2018 com os descritores: HIV, transmissão vertical, teste rápido, HIV na mulher, diagnóstico precoce doHIV, diagnóstico, prognóstico, feminino. Utilizou-se como critérios de exclusão aqueles que não foram considerados os tipos de documento não relacionados à temática proposta, publicados em outras línguas que não o português, não disponíveis como texto completo e publicados antes de 2014. RESULTADOS: Estudos demonstraram que, com o uso de antirretrovirais, é possível observar redução considerável da transmissão vertical do HIV, o que evidencia a boa cobertura do pré-natal nas mulheres infectadas, sendo que o Brasil poderia se beneficiar, pois conta tanto com um ativismo comunitário em HIV/AIDS com grande experiência quanto com a expansão da Estratégia Saúde da Família, que auxilia a atuação de agentes comunitários de saúde com um olhar das equipes sobre as famílias, o que reduziria as perdas ao atender melhor os indivíduos infectados. CONCLUSÃO: O grande desafio é possível, visando observar melhora no prognóstico da transmissão vertical do HIV. Porém, a intercorrência da não adesão de mulheres portadoras de HIV ao pré-natal ou ao tratamento para pessoas que vivem com esse vírus ainda dificulta o cenário apresentado e, portanto, ainda existe a transmissão pelo meio descrito. Tal situação indica que é necessário ainda mais estudos que venham a incrementar o desenvolvimento de projetos para a Estratégia de Saúde da Família(ESF) realizar intervenção e a conscientização sobre a importância do tema.
