ABSTRACTThe present work was developed with the objective to evaluate the influence of the number of leaves and test the effect of different concentrations of IBA (indolbutyric acid) in the cutting propagation of olive tree. The experimental design was complete randomized, in a two factors arrangement (4 x 3), with four different concentrations of IBA (0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 mg L -1 ) and three different types of cuttings (without leaves, one pair of leaves and two pairs of leaves). The cuttings were padronized with 12 cm of length and treated with IBA for five seconds. After that, they were taken to polysty rene trays filled with Plantmax ® and stayed under house green conditions for 90 days. Rooting and sprouting percentage, number of leaves, sprouts and roots, sprout and root length were evaluated. IBA only influenced the root system; the concentration of 2000 mg L -1 promoted best results for rooting percentage and the concentration of 3000 mg L -1 IBA in cuttings with two pairs of leaves promoted best results for number of roots and root length; cuttings of absent leaves favored larger sprouting in the cuttings.
ABSTRACTThe present work had the objective to verify the rooting of fig tree cuttings originating from sprouting, through the use of different substrates. Herbaceous cuttings were collected of 'Roxo de valinhos' fig tree with 10 cm of length when the sprouting was happening. The cuttings with two leaves and not of the apical bud to conditioned in polypropylene trays containing different substrates: casca de pinus ® , vermiculita ® , coconut fiber ® , plantmax ® , soil + cow mature (1:1 v/v) and tropstrato ® . The cuttings were placed at greenhouse, under humidity and temperature control. After 50 days, the rooting, sprouting and death cutting percentage, the number of leaves and roots of each cutting were evaluated. The substrates coconut fiber ® and plantmax ® promoted better results.
EMERGENCY AND PLANT DEVELOPMENT OF QUINCE CULTIVARS TO BE USED AS ROOTSTOCKABSTRACT -The present work has as objective to study the emergency and development of quince seedlings with potential to be used as rootstock. The work was developed in the APTA Center Fruits/IAC, from May/05 to January/06. Seeds of 'Mendoza INTA-37', 'Provence', 'Portugal' and 'Japonês' quince were collected from mature fruits, washed in water, dried under shade for 48 h, and stratified in cold for 20 days. After that, these seeds were sowed in polystyrene trays (72 cell of 120 cm 3 /cell), containing vermiculite as substrate. The percentage of emergency was determined after 30 days, at intervals of 10 days, in a total of four collections. On the end of this period, 10 seedlings were removed from each replication and evaluated the height of the aerial part, the number of leaves, and the medium dry mass of aerial and root parts. Also, 10 uniform representative seedlings of each replication were separeted and transplanted to polyethylene bags (capacity of 3 L) containing substrate composed by soil + cattle manure + sand (in the volumetric proportion of 1:1:1) fertilized with 191 g CaHPO 3 , 10 g KCl and 100 g CaCO 3 in 100 L substrate. Then plants were maintained under shading sieve (50% shading), being irrigated periodically. The height and diameter of seedlings were evaluated at intervals of 30 days until the end of the sixth...
ABSTRACTThe objective of the present work was to evaluate the emergency of macadamia nut seedlings through incision and immersion of the seeds in the gibberellic acid. Seeds of IAC-Campinas B cultivar, extracted from mature fruits, were standardized according to size and health. They were immerged in recipient filled with water. In 80 seeds a 0.5 cm incision was done in the peel, longitudinally in relation the embryo, leaving the almonds exposed. The other 80 seeds were kept intact. Soon after, the seeds were submerged in different concentrations of gibberellic acid: 0, 150, 300 and 450 mg L -1 , for 90 hours, with oxygen system. After that period, the seeds were placed in plastic trays, among layers of autoclaved sand, and preserved in laboratory with controlled temperature (around 25ºC). The trays were humidified daily. After 180 days, the emergency percentage, average length of the roots, average length of the aerial part and average total dry mass of the seedlings were evaluated. It was concluded that the incision and immersion of the seeds of macadamia nut gibberellic acid were harmful to the emergence and development of the seedlings.
