À l’occasion de travaux de ravalement obligatoires, les vestiges architecturaux d’une maison du XIIe siècle ont été dégagés 12, rue Sénarmont à Dreux (Eure-et-Loir), en bordure immédiate de l’église Saint-Pierre. La façade sur rue présente à l’étage une suite de quatre remarquables fenêtres géminées en plein cintre, dont la conservation des chapiteaux des baies permet de proposer une fourchette chronologique autour des années 1140-1150. Devant la qualité exceptionnelle de l’ensemble découvert, la conservation régionale des monuments historiques a engagé une procédure de classement au titre des monuments historiques. Parallèlement, le service départemental d’archéologie a pu mener une étude de bâti sur les deux façades dégagées de leurs enduits selon les prescriptions du service régional de l’archéologie. En dépit du temps restreint imparti à cette étude et à l’impossibilité d’appréhender les intérieurs, cette découverte confirme la présence de maisons de plan massé, en forme de tour dans les agglomérations des XIIe-XIVe siècles de l’Ouest de la France. Avec cette nouvelle construction, la ville de Dreux rejoint les villes de Chartres et Bonneval dont le potentiel architectural a fait l’objet de plus d’attention.
