Volleyball is a team sport with high physical and perceptual-cognitive demand, hence, increasing the perception of physical and mental fatigue during a competition. To alleviate fatigue (physical and mental), mindfulness and music have been proposed. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of mindfulness-based mental versus music training on mental fatigue, physical fatigue, and recovery in elite competitive female volleyball athletes using a randomized two-controlled study with follow-up. Participants were 30 elite female Brazilian volleyball athletes. Athletes were randomly assigned to the following groups: 1) mindfulness-based mental training group (MBMT); 2) music-based training group (MBT); or 3) control group (CG). Three variables were evaluated as follows: 1) recovery based on total quality recovery; 2) mental fatigue visual analog scale; and 3) physical fatigue visual analog scale. Regarding recovery, there was no difference between the MBMT, MBT, and CG groups (p > 0.05). A difference in mental fatigue was noted between MBT and CG at follow-up [F(2,26) = 5.71, p = 0.009; large]. Regarding physical fatigue, there was no difference between the MBMT, MBT, and CG groups (p > 0.05). The mindfulness intervention effectively attenuated the mental fatigue caused by competition in volleyball athletes. These results will assist coaches and staff in providing fatigue management and reinforce the applicability of mental training in sports.
RESUMOIntroduction: Swimming demands several skills from the athletes. Their psychological aspects can be decisive in results and present variations and influences from other factors, such as sleep and training. Objective: To investigate mood and factors associated with swimmers in the competitive period. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 54 athletes, age 12 to 32, who participated in a stage of the Catarinense Swimming Championship. The General Characterization of High Performance Athletes Questionnaire and the Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS) were applied in the pre-competition moment. Descriptive analysis of data was performed using mean and standard deviation. To compare men's and women's moods, practice time, level sports racing and the result of the competition, the Mann-Whitney test was used. Results: Most athletes dedicate themselves exclusively to the sport; they do not use drugs to regulate mood; and their self-assessed quality of sleep is good. No differences were found when comparing the moods of the swimmers according to the time of practice, level of competition and the results obtained participating in the competition. Regarding mood states, it was found a significant difference in the comparison of mood factors anger, fatigue, and depression with the self-perception of sleep quality, which may negatively affect the performance of athletes. Abstract:The study aimed to describe the sociodemographic, socioeconomic, and sports profiles of Brazilian competitive elite junior tennis players. A total of 130 athletes participated, being 102 males and 28 females. Most of them come from Brazil's Southeast and South and train in those regions. Most belong to the "A" socioeconomic class. On average, they began practicing tennis at the age of eight and started competing at the age of 11. Their average practice and competition times were seven and four years respectively. Some (16%) have been finalists in international competitions and nearly half have already played finals in national and international competitions. Those players were found to come from Brazil's highest economic classes. Moreover, they showed large amount of training and practice time. Participaram do estudo 137 atletas do sexo masculino. O humor interfere diretamente no desempenho esportivo.
