É a partir do romance Um defeito de cor, de Ana Maria Gonçalves, que Fabiana Carneiro da Silva revisita os significados da maternidade negra no Brasil. “Das profundezas das águas”, como sugere o título Ominíbú, termo do iorubá, são revolvidas as histórias acerca das travessias feitas por uma mulher corajosa que enfrenta os embates de uma ordem que intenta explorar até a exaustão os corpos marcados pela ideologia escravagista. No romance, o tema da maternidade emerge em um cenário construído por uma mãe que, ao final de sua vida, narra as tentativas de localizar o filho, vendido como escravo pelo próprio pai. Tecendo uma análise estética apurada, Fabiana da Silva evidencia as correspondências entre a conformação do relato-carta da protagonista e o contemporâneo. Desde a teoria literária, esse livro busca um diálogo sensível à experiência das comunidades negras, sobretudo das mulheres a elas pertencentes, a fim de promover uma reflexão comprometida com a construção de um espaço plural questionador do fundamento racista da construção nacional brasileira.
