Dann wird an Hand einer elementaren Theorie der kathodischen Teile der Entladung gezeigt, daB aus Feldstarkemessungcn auf den Plasmawirkungsgrad (Beitrag der Ionen des negativen Glimmlichtes zur Erhaltung der Entladung) geschlossen werden kann. Aus der Stationaritatsbedingung ergibt sich, daB dem Photoeffekt nicht der Hauptbeitrag zur Elektronenauslosung zugeschrieben werden kann.
EinleitungDie Kathode und der Fallraum einer Glimmentladung bilden eine Art Kondensator, dessen positiver Teilder Fallraumsich von der Kathode bis an den Glimmsaum erstreckt. Letzterer wird durch die positive UberschuBladung gebildet, die die Kathode vollstandig abschirmt.Bei einer stationaren Entladung herrscht dynamisches Gleichgewicht. Die Ionen fallen standig auf die Kathode, werden aber in stets gleicher Zahl durch E lektronen und eventuell durch IonenstoBe, von neuem erzeugt.Die im Fallraum entstehenden Elektronen laufen bis jenseits dcs Glimmsaumes und bilden dort auch Ladungstrager, von denen ein Teil in den Fallraum diffundiert und an den dort stattfindenden Prozessen teilnimmt.Die M-Ladungstrager einer Lavine (Nachkommen eines aus der Kathode austretenden ,,Primarelektrons"), die im Fallraum entstehen, unterscheiden sich von den N im Glimmlicht entstandenen in folgendem: a ) Alle M-positiven Ionen gelangen praktisch zur Kathode, wahrend von den N-Ionen aus dem Glimmlicht nur ein Bruchteil vN dahin gelangt. b) Die M + I-Elektronen entziehen dem Feld vie1 Energie, wahrend die N aus dem Glimmlicht in Anbetracht der dort. herrschenden Feldverhaltnisse das nicht konnen. Die zur Erhaltung der Entladung notwendigen Primarelektronen konnen durch Ionen, Photonen, metastabile Atome und auch durch schnell fliegende neutrale Teilchen aus der Kathode ausgelost werden l). __ ~l) A.
