A survey of 300 primigravid women was conducted with a view to assessing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour affecting the dental health of themselves and their children. A considerable gap between knowledge of dental health and hygiene, and the practice of the latter, lack of awareness of the importance of the primary dentition, and an apathetic acceptance of “inevitable” loss of the natural dentition, were some of the points of interest revealed. The need for carefully planned dental health education during the ante‐natal period is stressed, so that knowledge thus acquired may favourably influence the dental health of the rising generation.
