Our data indicate that linezolid may be an effective alternative therapy for orthopaedic infections caused by Gram-positive resistant pathogens and that a prospective and comparative evaluation of linezolid in this setting is necessary.
Tissue-sparing surgery is a surgical strategy that aims to preserve, as much as possible, both bone and soft tissue, in order to minimize the invasiveness of the operation and the overall treatment aggression. This is achieved, in the field of hip replacement surgery, by conservation of the femoral neck through the use of "mini-prostheses" such as the Biodynamic and later the CFP. In this paper, we illustrate the biomechanical characteristics and structure of the CFP prosthesis and briefly describe our 25-year experience in conserving the femoral neck during hip replacement surgery. In particular, we report the results of 943 implants, demonstrating a high percentage of excellent results and good clinicoradiographic results (97%) with a survival rate of almost 100%.
The load bearing joints of the human body and particularly the ankle are often seriously damaged because of different pathological events. During the last 10 years a lot of total ankle prostheses have been studied and implanted. in consequence of the inadequate results obtained by arthrodesis (i.e. the fusion of the joint). The aim of this paper is to analyze mechanical features (functional, kinematic, and strength) of the ankle joint in order to provide optimized design criteria of an arthroprosthesis substituting the disabled joint. c 100
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
