RESUMO:A Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f. tem sido utilizada há milhares de anos na medicina tradicional para o tratamento de diversos males. O intuito desse trabalho foi o levantamento bibliográfico de artigos que evidenciassem a atividade farmacológica da Aloe vera. A revisão contemplou livros e periódicos nacionais e internacionais indexados nas bases de dados MEDLINE, LILACS e SciElo, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol, utilizando as palavras-chave citadas. Após o levantamento bibliográfico, constatou-se que várias atividades biológicas são atribuídas a Aloe vera. Evidências sugerem eficácia no tratamento da psoríase, herpes genital, queimaduras e hiperglicemia. Além disto, também foram demonstradas atividades antineoplásica, antimicrobiana, anti-inflamatória e imunomodulatória por estudos in vitro e in vivo, entretanto, na cicatrização de feridas, os resultados foram conflitantes. No tratamento de dermatite por radiação e em queimaduras solares sua eficácia não foi comprovada e foram relatados casos de hepatite aguda devido ao consumo de preparações orais. Tendo em vista as várias atividades comprovadas e poucos relatos acerca de sua contra indicação, conclui-se que o uso desta espécie corrobora o vasto uso popular. Burm.f. has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicine to treat various ailments. The aim of this study was to carry out a bibliographical review on the pharmacological activity of Aloe vera. This review included books and national and international journals indexed to MEDLINE, LILACS and SciELO, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, using the key words mentioned. After the literature review, we found that several biological activities have been attributed to Aloe vera. Evidence suggests efficacy in the treatment of psoriasis, genital herpes, burns and hyperglycemia. Moreover, antineoplastic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities have also been demonstrated by in vitro and in vivo studies; however, in wound healing, the results were conflicting. In the treatment of radiation dermatitis and sunburn, its efficacy has not been proven, and cases of acute hepatitis from the consumption of oral preparations have been reported. Considering the various proven activities and the few reports about the contraindications of Aloe vera, we conclude that the use of this species confirms its wide popular usage.

RESUMO:O presente trabalho teve por objetivo determinar a capacidade antioxidante de Oeceoclades maculata. A atividade foi determinada de acordo com a capacidade do extrato hidroalcoólico das folhas reduzir o radical DPPH. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que os conteúdos de polifenóis e flavonas/flavonóis são maiores no extrato preparado a frio (EBHF) do que no extrato preparado a quente (EBHQ), sugerindo que o aquecimento usado na preparação do extrato altera esses componentes ativos. Portanto, para esta espécie deve ser realizado o método de extração a frio para conservar as substâncias que possuem atividade antioxidante. (Orchidaceae) leaf extracts.This work aimed to determine the antioxidant capacity of Oeceoclades maculata. The antioxidant activity was determined in accordance with the ability of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves to reduce the DPPH radical. The results showed that the polyphenol and flavonoid contents are greater in the cold extract (EBHF) than in the hot extract (EBHQ), which suggests that the heating effect in the preparation of the extract modifies these active compounds. Therefore, for this species, the cold extraction method must be carried in order to conserve the substances with antioxidant activity.

Objectives: Burns are shown as a clinical problem for their severity and multiple complications due to the time required to heal. Therapies that improve their healing are of great importance, especially for being minimally invasive, of low cost and best performance, all related to the speed and quality of healing. This study investigated the effects of the magnetic electro stimulator Haihuá CD9 isolated or in association with Aloe vera in rats skin burns. Methods: Experimental groups (n = 30/group) were: (C) Carbopol gel; (F) A. vera/Carbopol gel; (H) Haihuá+Carbopol gel; (H+F) Haihuá+A. vera/Carbopol gel. Samples were collected on the 7th, 14th, and 21st experimental days for structural and morphometric analysis, hydroxyproline and glycosaminoglycans quantification, zymography for MMP-2 and MMP-9 and Western Blotting for TGF-β1, VEGF, Collagen I and III. Key findings: The expression of TGF-β1 in H+F was increased on the 7th day and of MMP-9 on the 7th and 14th days. The expression of VEGF increased in the first experimental periods and decreased in the last for the treated groups. There was an increase in the fibroblasts and birefringent collagen fibers in groups treated with Haihuá isolated or in association with A. vera in all periods. The quantification of collagen I increased, while collagen III decreased in H+F. The higher amount of GAGs and MMP-2 active isoform was detected in H and H+F during all periods. Conclusions: Considering the results of the present study, electromagnetic stimulation in association with the A. vera extract promoted an increase in the number of fibroblasts, GAGs content, MMP-2 activity, the deposition and organization of collagen fibers, favoring the repair of injuries to second degree burns, and may also present therapeutic potential in this injury type.

RESUMO: Na medicina natural pouco se sabe sobre a importância curativa da maior parte das espécies pertencentes à Bromeliaceae. Tal fato evidencia a necessidade da realização de investigações para a comprovação de possíveis potenciais fitoterápicos em espécies dessa família. Guzmania lingulata é caracterizada como sendo uma das espécies de bromélia mais comercializada e conhecida popularmente, a qual é amplamente propagada no Brasil. O presente trabalho objetivou a caracterização anatômica e a identificação de classes de metabólitos secundários presentes em G. lingulata, por meio de análises anatômicas, histoquímicas e químicas. As folhas foram fixadas em FAA 50 e transferidas para etanol 50%. Para o estudo anatômico, secções transversais da porção mediana das lâminas foliares foram obtidas à mão livre e submetidas ao processo de dupla coloração com safranina e azul de astra, sendo, logo após, montadas em gelatina glicerinada. Para a triagem das classes de metabólitos secundários foram coletadas 10 folhas frescas que passaram pelo processo de maceração em solução hidroalcoólica 70% por sete dias, à temperatura ambiente. O filtrado resultante da filtração a vácuo foi evaporado sob vácuo a temperatura de 50ºC até a remoção total do etanol, sendo obtido desta forma o extrato bruto hidroalcoólico a frio (EBHF). Os resultados das secções histológicas permitiram a caracterização anatômico-foliar baseada na qualidade das secções manuais obtidas. Os testes em relação às classes de metabólitos secundários revelaram a presença de antocianinas e taninos e ausência de flavonóides e saponinas. Esses resultados estimulam a realização de estudos mais aprofundados para identificar e quantificar os compostos dessas e de outras classes de metabólitos. Mez. In natural medicine, little is known about the healing importance of most of the species belonging to the family Bromeliaceae. Such a fact points tothe need to perform investigations toprovethe possible phytotherapic potentials in species of the family. Guzmania lingulata is characterized as one of the most popular wellknown and commercialized species of bromeliads, being widely spread in Brazil. This work aimed at the anatomic characterization and identification of classes of the secondary metabolites present in G. lingulata, by anatomic, histochemical and chemical analysis of the leaves. The leaves were fixed in FAA 50 and, afterwards, transferred to 50% ethanol. Objectives: The burn repair associated with diabetes complications showed considerable changes in the healing process and the development of alternative therapies to favor the repair is important. This study investigated the efficacy of the Casearia sylvestris in the burn repair in diabetic and non-diabetic rats. Methods: The animals were divided into four groups (n = 20): (C) non-diabetics treated with carbopol gel; (G) non-diabetic treated with C. sylvestris extract in carbopol gel; (DM-C) diabetics treated with carbopol gel; (DM-G) diabetics treated with C. sylvestris extract in carbopol gel. Burn was induced using a metal plate (2 cm diameter/120 °C/20 sec). Samples were collected on the 3rd, 7th, 14th and 21st days after the injury for histomorphometric analysis (inflammatory infiltrate, fibroblasts, blood vessels and collagen), MPO (Myeloperoxidase) and NAG (N-Acetilglicosaminidase) dosage, hydroxyproline, glycosaminoglycans, TGF-β1, VEGF, collagen I and III. Key findings: C. sylvestris decreased the inflammatory process during the experimental period in diabetic and non-diabetic animals which has been demonstrated by MPO, NAG quantification, and TGF-β1 expression. C. sylvestris also increased blood vessels and decreased VEGF expression during the studied period in non-diabetic animals. Fibroplasia and collagenase were increased in all experimental periods in the DM-G group by means of de hydroxyproline quantification, collagen I, collagen III and glycosaminoglycans. Conclusions: C. sylvestris application can modulate favorably the time of inflammation and collagenous process in the repair of burn injuries in diabetic rats.
