This study examined the perception of construction professionals and the extent of digital transformation in the Nigeria construction industry. A questionnaire survey was carried out where 84 copies of questionnaires containing information relating to digital technologies trends and transformation were randomly administered to the selected construction professionals in Anambra State Nigeria. 80 were completed, returned and found useful, thus, giving a response rate of 95.24%. Data collected were analysed and presented using mean, percentages, charts and relative importance index (RII). The study revealed that 69% and 12% of the professionals viewed digital transformation as opportunity and threat respectively, whereas; 19% viewed it as both threat and opportunity. It further revealed that 63% were satisfied with their firms' readiness to transform digitally. The study then observed that application of digital technologies among construction firms in the study area was still at infancy due to lack capacity, critical knowledge and digital transformation enthusiasm among managerial teams. It was therefore, evident that digital transformation would help the industry to better its data storage and management capacity, increase employee productivity and gain competitive advantage. The study recommended collaboration between government and relevant regulatory bodies in Nigeria construction industry to workout appropriate roadmap that would position the industry in the right track towards transforming digitally.
Aim: This study examines the extent of readiness of Nigeria construction firms toward digital transformation within the study area. Study Design: It was a survey research, questionnaires containing information relating to digital Technologies, trend and transformation were administered randomly to selected construction practitioners in Anambra State, Nigeria. Place and Duration of the Study: The study was conducted in Anambra State, Nigeria for a period of 6 months. Methodology: A total of 84 questionnaires were administered to selected respondents; 80 copies were completed, returned and found useful, thus, giving a response rate of 95%. Data collected were analysed and presented using mean, percentages, relative importance index (RII), bar charts and pie charts. Results: The study found out that 63% of construction professional is satisfied with their firm readiness to digital transformation. However, the application of digital technologies skills and its transformation in the study area is still at foundation level. The use of mobile and social technologies (83%), entrepreneurship (73%) and Customer experience & strategic thinking (59%) are common in the study area while InMemory Databases skills (36%), Cloud Computing (39%) and Big Data Analytics (44%) are rare. Furthermore 35%, 53% 1% and 11% of the firms are planning to kick up digital transformation, undergoing some forms of digital transformation, attained or don’t see the need for digital transformation respectively. Conclusion: The study was concluded by recommending that construction practitioners should be properly sensitised on the need to understand and conceptualise on how digital transformation and technology will impact construction processes & activities and ability to manage or work within digitally-savvy environments.
The study evaluates the factors confronting the present-day construction practices in South-East Nigeria. Being a survey research, questionnaires containing information relating to factors/challenges affecting construction practices were randomly administered to selected construction practitioners in South-Eastern States of Nigeria. Accordingly, a total of 240 questionnaires were administered to the selected respondents while 160 copies were completed, returned and found useful. Thus, giving a response rate of 66.67%. Data collected were analysed and presented using percentages, mean scores, principal and factor analysis, z-test and tables. The study found that the core factors that constrain present-day construction in the study area are issues related to inadequate/dearth of technical and managerial expertise, corruption and poor project planning and control; which significantly affect operational effectiveness of the construction industry in the study area. Therefore, the study concluded by recommending that thorough capacity building through training or retraining programme which should centre on areas of the issues identified should be religiously pursued in the study area.
