Eine immer grS~ere Bedeutung gewinnen die Tropenkrankheiten dureh die engeren Beziehungen zum Mutterland, die guten Verkehrsverbindungen, die grol~e Bedeatung der Kolonieen. Von den tropischen Hautkrankheiten findeu wli" in der Literatur aUer L{inder zwar zahlreiehe zerstreute Notizen uns ausffihrliehe Arbeiten. Allein erstens ist eine Orientierung unter diesen Umst{inden schwer and oft unmSglieh und zweitens ist gerade in diesem Gebiete eine so grol~e Sachkenntnis und Erfahrung erforderlieb~ daI~ nicht alles Mitgeteilte strenger Kritik Stand h{ilt. Es entspricht deshalb einem wirklichen Bedfirfnis, daI~ die Gesamtfrage yon einem speziell erfahrenen and kritisehen Autor dargestellt wird. Vor kurzem is~ ein ausgezeiehnetes franzSsisehes Bach yon Jeanselme fiber den Gegenstand ersehienen. Ibm schlie~t sich die rnonographische Darstellung der tropisehen Hautkrankheiten als ein Abschnitt des Mensesehen Handbuehes der Tropenkrankheiten an. Plehn hat einen grol]en Tell seines Lebens in den Tropen zugebracht und bier nieht nur der rein klinisehen Beobachtung sondern auch der wissenschaftliehen Erforsehung der Tropenkrankheiten sein gr6l~tes Interesse zugewendet, davon zeugen seine Ma]ariastudien, seine Arbeit fiber Pseudolepra u. a.m. In iibersiehtlieher, kurzer und pr~gnanter, dabei aber doeh das Thema in allen Details ersehSpfender Darstellung behandelt der Autor das grol~e Gebiet; jedem Kapltel ist ein Literaturverzeiehnis angesehlossen. Es wiirde zu welt fiihren, auf alle Einzelheiten des inhaltsreiehen Buehs einzugehen. Einiges wenige sei nur hervorgehoben: Ainhum ist naeh P's. Anschauung sine einfaehe Entziindung ohne besondere spezifische Ursaehe. Der in den Tropen so hi~ufige rote ttund ist eine Dermatitis hidrotica. Das venerisehe Granulom der Tropen ist wesentlich mit dem pha_~ed{inisehen Sehanker der gem{i~igten Zone zu identifizieren.
