The reliability of the complement (C') fixation technique with platelets
in HL-A typing was studied by parallel platelet and lymphocytotoxic typings of
1098 Scandinavians. With good typing sera the reproducibilities of the two techniques
were equal and higher than 99.7%. The following HL-A antigens was demonstrated
on platelets by means of C'-fixing (C'F) iso-antibodies: HL-A1, 2, 3,
5, 7, 8, 9, Ba*, ILN*, FJH, and BB. The corresponding antibodies were used in
the platelet typing of between 20 and 525 unrelated Scandinavians and the results
were compared with those obtained by means of lymphocytotoxic typing. Most
of the specificities were detected identically or almost so in the two techniques.
Preliminary studies of a new HL-A specificity, EL, are reported.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
