During this COVID 19 pandemic situation, all sectors including education is also conducting its services via online. Most of the undergraduate in Sri Lanka are very familiar with class room traditional learning process. This paradigm shift has caused advantages and disadvantages in their education activities. A study on awareness of online learning of undergraduate is very much important to measure their present performances, finding pitfalls and draft online learning policies and guidelines for a successful learning environment. This research paper involved both Quantitative and Qualitative methods; where these two methods were used to determine the factors of awareness of students about online learning among the undergraduates of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL). There were around 400 questionnaires were sent to the students via WhatsApp and received 310 responses that can be used for this study. Students mentioned that they were facing the internet connectivity issues (40.2%) during this COVID-19 lockdown period. Most of the students pointed out that their monthly expenditure (69.4%) and internet bill (48.5%) have increased due to this online learning system. More than 50% of the students were happy with online education during this lockdown. Only 19.6% of them preferred the offline learning. Most of the students already had the experience in Zoom (51.2%) but, they preferred to use WebEx for their online education due to the user friendliness of WebEx. It is recommended to develop any virtual reality applications to conduct practical sessions. Also, universities can conduct online training programs about online education tools. Furthermore, government should consider to provide internet connection with free of charge to the students also internet providers should analyses the coverage issues in the rural areas. Furthermore, researcher can conduct survey about students’ perception and expectation about online learning in future.
A smart learning environment is equipped with personal digital devices, wireless communication, learning platforms, and sensors that associate to provide input into Artificial intelligence systems. Artificial intelligence makes decisions about regulating the physical aspects of the environment or learning systems. These requirements may be identified by analyzing learning performance, behaviors, and the real-world and online settings in which students are situated. There are several challenges in implementing smart learning environments that are highly cost-effective, connectivity issues (Internet), impairing students' problem-solving capacity, technical challenges, e.g., malfunctioning of electronic gadgets. Hence, in this paper, Artificial Intelligence based Efficient Smart Learning Framework (AI-ESLF) has been proposed to overcome the challenges faced by a smart learning environment. This study aims to designate the smart learning environment's current concept based on AI application and examine its fundamental criteria and demonstrate how tests can be performed in this smart learning environment by case studies. The experimental results show that the suggested system enhances the prediction ratio in terms of students' learning behavior compared to other existing approaches.
The aim and objective of this research are to create a model to measure the hate speech and to measure the contents of hate speech. The descriptive analysis method of data science was used to describe and summarize raw data from a dataset. We used Twitter as the social networking Web site for this research to analyze and measure the hate speech and its classifications. A dataset from kaggle datasets was applied for this research. To produce statistical results, we used monkey learn machine learning libraries which are incorporated with Python program to design and develop a model to classify and measure hate speech and its types that could be trained and tested using sentiment analysis. Researchers have found that the majority of the tweets are based on racist and ethnicity, sex and religion-based hate speech are also widely available.
Information and Communication technology (ICT) and/or Information Technology (IT) are the effective tools that have been employed in the field of education, research, administration and other ways for the betterment of the human life that brings revolution in the modern era. There are number of advantages and disadvantages available in using ICT for our activities. One of the major disadvantages of ICT and its devices is harmful substances including carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) to the environment that are not eco-friendly. Software and hardware part of IT has touched most of the parts of social, technical, economic and natural environment. Exponentially increasing production of computer hardware has posed major challenges of proper disposal of the electronic waste (e-waste) produced by this industry. Recycling companies are the key stakeholders in managing e-wastes in developing countries. But, they don"t have any proper system to handle those wastes. Therefore, the objective of this research is to explore and investigate the current condition of electronic waste"s recycling system in Sri Lanka and to study the problems faced by recycling companies in handling e-wastes as well as to develop a computerized system to solve e-waste recycling problems. The research method was case study and it is comprised of three phases: analysis and problem definition, system design and development and, system implementation. A structured questionnaire and informal interview methods were used to collect data. Secondary data from sources such previous research article on published and unpublished journals, websites, company database information, annual reports, magazines etc. were used. The population of the research was recycling companies of Sri Lanka and the sample size was seven registered recycling companies. It is identified that there are four kinds of recycling activities are processing as return back, recycle, resell and reuse the e-waste by Sri Lankan recycling companies. A web based system, based on the research were developed as the recycling companies of Sri Lanka can put into operation that may be adopted for sustainable management of e-waste. The final system is helpful for e-waste recycling companies to manage e-wastes and it will be benefited to the community and the nation as well.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
