The authors have a well-articulated vision of what the Metaverse could become in the field of Dermatology -called Dermoverse. For Dermoverse to become a clinical reality and contribute to better access to care it is critical that usages are developed and that the underlying technologies respect important requirements. We share Fernández-Parrado and Perandones-González interest and we do not foresee difficulties in developing usages -from training and education to engaging with naïve patients, facilitating doctor-patient communication, exchanging evidence-based information, managing patients with chronic skin conditions, providing comfortable environment for painful procedures, … only the sky's the limit. The bottle neck of the Dermoverse's development (Metaverse) lies with the use of non-fungible token (NFT) which could not be avoided. A non-fungible token is a unique digital identifier that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, that is recorded in a blockchain, and that is used to certify authenticity and ownership. 2 It represents an arbitrary piece of information, which can be created and exchanged on a blockchain, a type of public ledger secured by cryptographic algorithms. 3 Today the complexity of purchasing NFTs is a deterrent to the patient as well as for the general public and this technology requires a tremendous
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
