Januar 1875.) --Das Thallium, welches am -4nfanq des verflossenen Decenniums von C r o o k e s *j aufgefunden wurde, ist, soweit man es bis jetzt kennt, durch ein Verhalten charakterisirt, welcbes es von allen anderen Metallen sehr untersclieidet und demnach grofse, bis jetzt noch nichl Cberwundene Scliwierigkeiten darbietet, ihm den richtigen Platz im chemischen System unzuweisen. Wiihrend dasselbe sc+ien physikalischen Eigenschaften nach den1 Blei arn nachsten steht, sich von diesem a h r wieder durch sein diamagnetisches Verhaken unterscheidet , wodurch es dem Wismuth naher zu stehen kommt, lafst sein chemisches Verhalten es bald den Alkalimetallen, bald dem Blei tind anderen Korpern ahnlioh erscheinen. Wenn auch dem Thallium die Eigerischaft der Wasserzersetzung bei gewohnlicher Temperatur abgeht , weiche die Alkalirnetalle in so hohern Grade besitzen (Thallium zersetzt narnlich luftfreies Wasser weder bei gewiihnlicher Tempertltlar , noch bei Siedhitze, sondern erst bei Rothyluth **), so theilt es doch mit denselben, und besonders mit drin Kalium, viele der hervorragendsten Eigenschaften. Es lost sich z. B. in lufthaltigem Wasser auf und diem Losung besitzt dieselben chemiscben Eigenschaften, wie eine Lbsung yon Kalihydrat ; es zieht ferner *) Diere Annalen l B 4 , 206. Auch der gr3fsere Theil der iibrigen Salze des Thallium die besonders von L a m y **), K u h l m a n n ***), W e r t h e r +) und Anderen untersucht sind, schliebt sich in seinem chemiwhen Verhalten denen der Aikalimetalle und besoriders denen des Haliums an, und da bei einer grofsrn Zahl correspondirender Verbindungen des Thalliums und Kaliums aucti der zwischen ihnen bestehende Isomorphisrnus nachgewiesen ist, wie z. B. von R o s c o e f.+) zwischen den uberchlorsauren Salzw beider Metaile, von F. d e la P r o v o s ta y e +++]zwischen den traubensauren und sauren weinsaureii Salzen, von V. v o n L a n g *) zwischen den schw7efeisauren Salzen, so wiirde es hiernach allein keinem ZweifeI nnterliegen, welche Stellung inr System dem Thallium zu geben sci. Nun sind abcr Verbindungen des Thalliunis hekannt, welche , ohwohl in ahdither Wrise, wie die Obigen, zusammengesetzt, mit den entsprechenden Kaliumsalzen nicht gut in Einklang gebracht werdcn kihncn ; nanilich die Haloi'dsdlze und das Schwefelthaliium, welche gcmafs der sie charalderisirenden Eigenschaften das Thallium nicht d~~i Kaiium, sondern weit eher dem Rlei zur Seite stellen.
