Bu araştırma rekreasyon alanında çalışan akademisyenlerin görüşlerinin incelenmesi ve rekreasyon eğitimine ilişkin sorunlara çözüm önerileri getirilmesi amacıyla tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu amaçlı örneklem yöntemlerinden biri olan maksimum çeşitlilik örneklem tekniği ile seçilip rekreasyon alanında çalışan 25 akademisyenden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada nitel veri toplama yöntemlerinden görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan kişisel bilgilere ilişkin (yaş, cinsiyet, medeni durum vb.) sorular ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme soruları yer almaktadır. Toplanan veriler betimsel ve içerik analizi kullanılarak NVIVO paket programı ile modellemesi, kodların oluşturulup sunulması sağlanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgularda araştırmaya katılan kadın ve erkek akademisyenlerin 35-66 yaş arasında olduğu olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırmada katılımcılara toplam 6 soru yöneltilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgularda sorulan sorulara akademisyenlere göre rekreasyon eğitimin anlamı 8 kod, üniversitelerdeki rekreasyon eğitiminin sorunları 8 kod, rekreasyon eğitiminde yeniden yapılandırma 7 kod, rekreasyon eğitiminin toplumsal ve bireysel kazanımları 17 kod, kamu ve özel sektörlerle iş birliği 9 kod ve rekreasyon uzmanlarının istihdam fırsatı bulduğu unvanlar başlığı altında 15 kod bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak, üniversitelerde rekreasyon eğitiminin yeterli düzeyde olmadığı, eğitim içeriğinin geliştirilmesi için yeniden yapılandırılmaya ihtiyaç duyulduğu, eğitim yetersizliğinden kaynaklı istihdam sorunlarının görüldüğü, üniversitelerle kamu ve özel sektör iş birliklerinin zayıf olduğu ve rekreasyon alanında uzman akademisyenlerin alana özgü oluşturulmuş ders içeriklerine bağlı olarak eğitim vermesi gerekliliği ortaya çıkmıştır.
