Objetivos: realizar a coleta de dados de prontuários eletrônicos de pacientes portadoras de diabetes mellitus gestacional (DMG) bem como interpretá-los e relacioná-los com as literaturas já existentes sobre o tema. Materiais e métodos: estudo transversal, descritivo e quantitativo com dados de prontuários eletrônicos de uma amostra de pacientes pertencentes à 20ª Regional de Saúde do Paraná. Para os cálculos epidemiológicos considerou-se o intervalo de confiança de 95% (IC95%). Resultados: a prevalência de DMG foi de 79,12%. Apenas 4,17% das pacientes estavam em seu peso ideal e 69,44% das pacientes possuíam algum grau de obesidade. A maioria das pacientes (84,7% do total) possuíam mais que 25 anos de idade. Das pacientes com DMG, 69,23% possuíam história familiar positiva para diabetes mellitus em parentes de primeiro grau e 26,83% apresentaram história pessoal prévia de DMG. Quanto ao tratamento, 45,8% das pacientes realizaram o tratamento apenas com mudança do estilo de vida (MEV), e 54,2% necessitaram da introdução de insulina. A complicação clínica mais frequentemente associada foi a ocorrência de doença hipertensiva específica da gestação (DHEG) (52,5%), além de infecção do trato urinário (ITU) (25%). Conclusões: há fatores de risco que podem ser preditores sensíveis do desenvolvimento de DMG, como IMC, idade e histórico familiar de DM em parentes de primeiro grau. Além disso, há um aumento de incidência de complicações relacionadas ao diabetes durante a gestação, principalmente de doença hipertensiva específica da gestação (DHEG) e infecção do trato urinário (ITU).
