Аннотация. Описан поиск железорудной базы Шайтанского археологического комплекса, являвшегося крупнейшим железоделательным центром в Западной Сибири во II тыс. н.э. Отдельное внимание уделено проблеме выявления использовавшейся руды по данным геохимических анализов. Проведенная аналитика подтвердила эффективность использования соотношения MnO/TiO 2 для идентификации средневековых рудников. На основе геохимических анализов установлено, что население Шайтанского металлургического комплекса в X-XVII вв. разрабатывало одновременно два рудника, находящихся в радиусе 40 км: Киреевское проявление сидерита и Поздняковское месторождение болотных руд. В археологии Западной Сибири традиция использования различных руд одним населением выявлена впервые. Сделано предположение, что широкое освоение шайтанскими металлургами разных руд обусловлено качеством производимого железа. Болотные руды Поздняковского месторождения, в отличие от сидеритовых руд Киреевского проявления, богаты марганцем (1,2-13%), который повышал прочность и твердость изделия. Отмечена большая редкость таких руд в Северной Евразии. Вероятно, по этой причине количество поздняковской руды и шлаков с повышенным содержанием марганца (1-8,2%) преобладает на памятниках Шайтанского комплекса. Высказана гипотеза, что поселения металлургов могли специально возникнуть в таежной зоне Томского Приобья для разработки этой редкой и богатой руды. Аннотация. В области исследования древних технологий черной металлургии за последние десятилетия накоплен колоссальный опыт, особенно зарубежными археометаллургами. В статье показано, как на основе этих новых данных стало возможным по-новому взглянуть на особенности металлургии железа целого региона-Горной Шории. Оказалось, что бесценными информационными возможностями обладает простой металлургический шлак, которому в отечественных исследованиях не уделялось должного внимания. Дан подробный анализ одного из типов железного шлака-кузнечного. Отмечено, как его ошибочная интерпретация повлияла на наши представления о металлургической традиции, которая сохранялась у кузнецких татар в XVII-XVIII вв. Дана морфологическая характеристика кузнечных шлаков, полученных на 19 археологических памятниках Горной Шории. Представлены результаты геохимических анализов этих шлаков, а также интерпретация данных. Продемонстрирован большой эвристический потенциал комплексного исследования этого отхода кузнечного производства. Полученным новым технологическим реконструкциям были найдены соответствия в письменных источниках XVII-XVIII вв. На этой основе предложен метод расчета производительности железоделательных мастерских кузнецких татар. Одним из оснований для применения единого коэффициента в таких расчетах для всех памятников Горной Шории стал морфологический и геохимический анализ кузнечных шлаков. Сходство этих шлаков позволяет утверждать, что для всего региона были характерны единые технологические традиции производства железа.
