O comércio de exportação de gado vivo tem sido foco de diversos tipos de críticas em vários países, sob o argumento principal de ser inerentemente cruel aos animais. Tal perspectiva enfrenta o que aqui condensamos enquanto especismo colonial que defende, dentre outras coisas, a manutenção deste comércio em razão do suposto benefício financeiro das exportações, fruto das boas relações com o comércio exterior e que se tem investido em rígido controle sanitário para se cumprir as normas de bem-estar animal. No entanto, almejamos ressaltar que essa discussão não parece ter adentrado no debate dos legados coloniais deste nicho do agronegócio, em especial na formação da sociedade brasileira a partir da colonização europeia. Para esse feito, analisamos a temática pelas óticas do encontro entre os Estudos Críticos Animais e a Decolonialidade.
