As tecnologias passaram a ser mais requeridas pelo ramo laboratorial, uma vez que acentuam a produtividade, reduzem erros e proporcionam oportunidades de gestão. Uma tecnologia aplicável ao laboratório clínico é o Sistema Globalmente Harmonizado de Classificação e Rotulagem de Produtos Químicos (GHS), o qual classifica as substâncias químicas e misturas de acordo com os perigos físicos, à saúde e ao meio ambiente. Considerando o risco químico como um dos tipos mais frequentes em análises clínicas, este trabalho analisou a percepção de profissionais e alunos atuantes em laboratórios clínicos acerca do GHS e do gerenciamento de risco químico por meio da aplicação de um questionário. Cinquenta e seis pessoas de alguns laboratórios clínicos da região metropolitana de Belém responderam às questões. A pesquisa demonstrou que conhecimento acerca do GHS independe do tempo de profissão ou categoria profissional. Entre os entrevistados, apenas 21,4 % disseram saber armazenar produtos químicos de acordo com a classificação de perigo de cada substância. Eles reconheceram corretamente com mais frequência os pictogramas de produtos inflamáveis, corrosivos e tóxicos. Mas 28,6 % não souberam reconhecer nenhum dos símbolos das classes do GHS. Outro achado preocupante refere-se ao desconhecimento da metade dos participantes quanto aos procedimentos a adotar em situações de acidente. E quase 60 % negaram ter recebido instruções sobre descarte de substâncias químicas onde trabalham. Verificou-se que, embora os profissionais possuam um conhecimento geral sobre o GHS, ainda existem lacunas e falta de compreensão em relação aos seus detalhes e implicações práticas. Isso ressalta a necessidade de programas de treinamento e educação contínuos para melhorar a conscientização e a aplicação eficaz das diretrizes do GHS no contexto das análises clínicas.
