Frente ao aumento dos transtornos mentais entre jovens e crescente tempo dispendido com o uso das redes sociais esse estudo tem como objetivo identificar na literatura o conhecimento produzido sobre depressão em estudantes adolescentes que usam frequentemente as redes sociais. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura sistemática. As buscas na literatura ocorreram por meio de consultas nas bases de dados do Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) e PUBMED a partir dos seguintes descritores: “Depressão”; “Adolescentes”; “Depressão na adolescência” e “Redes socias” nos últimos cinco anos. A amostra final foi constituída de onze artigos. A literatura revela que existem riscos de danos à saúde mental de jovens estudantes que ficam expostos com a dependência das mídias sociais. Todavia, ainda não está confirmado a associação entre as mídias sociais e os sinais e sintomas depressivos. Assim, o uso frequente das redes sociais está relacionado com aspectos fundamentais da atenção psicossocial do adolescente. Portanto, é imprescindível estratégias de promoção e intervenções que abordem a saúde mental na educação escolar.
