Many studies applied the mood system and transitivity on the clauses, but a little are known that mood system and transitivity could also be applied on the slogans. As a descriptive analysis, this study tries to investigate the mood system and transitivity on the fourteen national airlines slogan and forty regional airlines slogan. The findings indicate firstly, the mood system found in the both national and regional airlines are declarative and imperative mood. Secondly, referring to the study, it is reported that the transitivity in the national airlines slogans found are material, mental, and relational processes while the regional airlines slogan found are material, mental, relational, and behavioural processes. Both of the national and regional airlines slogans: the major mood is declarative mood and the major process is relational process.
Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) concerns the three metafunction meanings: clause as message, clause as exchange, and clause as representation. This article tries to apply the metafunctions based on SFL to Bahasa Indonesia clauses. The points of this paper are only two kinds of metafunctions could be applied to Bahasa Indonesia clauses: clause as message and clause as representation. The clause as exchange, according to the present writer, could not be applied to Bahasa Indonesia clauses since Bahasa Indonesia has no finite concept. The present writer found the word 'there' in English is equivalent to the word 'ada' in Bahasa Indonesia. Both of the words have no representational function; they are required because of the need for a subject in English.
The discussion of ideational grammatical metaphor has been attracted the attention of many researchers because of its usefulness and effectiveness in packaging information. With the device, meaning expressed in one pattern of the grammar can be reconstructed in another pattern of the grammar. This study focuses on the sequence type of ideational grammatical metaphor, which is then termed the sequence of ideational grammatical metaphor. In this kind of metaphor, the realization of meaning in clause complex is packed into a single clause through some wording techniques. The main objective of the present study is to analyze the application of techniques and their functions in historical text. By using the main framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) proposed by Halliday and Matthiessen (2004), it is concluded that two main techniques, with expansion and with projection, are used to construe two different features of information in historical text. Both expansion and projection wording technique pack the realization of features in clause complex into a single metaphorical clause.
This paper presents partial results of the first year of a multi-year joint study, involving three universities in Indonesia, aiming to develop a program to train English and Indonesian teachers to teach PISA-like reading (24 teachers in junior and senior high schools in West Java, Indonesia). The study aimed to identify whether the program can help the teachers enhance their PISA-like reading ability, create PISA-like reading materials for reading practices, and teach them to their students. The program drew on principles of effective teacher professional development (Ajani, 2018; Borko, 2004; Borko et al., 2010; Darling-Hammond et al., 2017), PISA reading (OECD, 2009, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021), text-based instruction (Macken-Horarik et al., 2017), Reading to Learn Program (Rose, 2020a,b), and online teaching (Ragan, 2015). The study uses a program evaluation with the data collected from four sources, including a phase of training, pre- and post-tests, collection of PISA-like reading materials, and questionnaires distributed before and after the training program. The focus of the first year was on enhancement of teachers’ understanding and skills in different PISA-related aspects. Enhancement of their teaching capacity has not been explored, except for that prior to the training program, and this has been reported in Rahmadina and Emilia (2022). The first-year results reveal that the training program could help enhance the teachers’ ability to read, to use appropriate texts, and to construct PISA-like reading tasks. This was confirmed by the teachers’ positive responses to the program, in accordance with previous research on effective teacher professional development (TPD). It is recommended that the training program be conducted in different contexts, involving more teachers to help students learn to read and succeed in PISA reading.
The purpose of this research is to investigate brand association of Ciletuh – Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark towards the COVID-19 pandemic and sustainable tourism. This research employs a qualitative research method with a case study and descriptive statistics model. The data used in this study are primary and secondary ones in which the techniques of data collecting is by observation, purposive random sampling with Likert scale, as well as literature studies. The results of this study show that Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark is not only a strategic place for tourism activities in the COVID-19 pandemic since it has characteristics to comply health protocols but also able to meet the tourism recovery during the pandemic. The tourism activities provided by Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark sites meet the concept of quality adventure tourism and in line with sustainable tourism with concerns on balancing the environmental conservation, local economic empowerment, as well as local social and culture preservation. The brand association of Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark is shown by its tourism product scope and quality which are associated to sustainable tourism, moreover the use occasion is line with the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The attributes of UNESCO Global Geopark also create the values of tourism activities during and after COVID-19 pandemic which meet the points of sustainable tourism activities and recoveries.
