"If you don't innovate, you will not survive. This statement has been especially true over the last century. The most critical factor is the speed of implementation of the particular innovation. High demands on the quality of process control, more and more require the use of supporting tools that enable us to get complex and detailed analysis of the process. For this reason attention is being paid to computer-aided simulation tools. Use of computer-aided simulation is still not as widespread as might be expected nowadays. However, expanded use of this tool is only a matter of time. This statement is confirmed by experience from many innovation projects, where the application of such computer-aided simulation tools was not only advantageous, but even necessary. This article deals with the application of computer-aided simulation in the field of process innovation. The particular case study shows the benefits of computer-aided simulation and the necessity of the connection and integration with the traditional methods (descriptive or analytical). It describes concisely the innovation process for an example of a JIT assembly (Just in Time). The traditional methods (ABC analysis and analysis of the activities that do not add value - Non Business Value) only partially solved the task of the project. To complete it and find the right solution, it was necessary to use dynamic analysis using computer-aided simulation. In conclusion, further opportunities to use computer-aided simulation in this field are being outlined.
The paper deals with the topic of facility management focusing on maintenance area and its importance for increasing company competitiveness. The importance of functional company facility management has risen dramatically in recent years. The reason for this is the increased pressure on cost reduction and additional value to the core business of the enterprise. The paper introduces a current theoretical literature-based framework for this topic in order to examine and analyse the supporting activities and processes connected with production facilities and maintenance particularly. The main aim of the paper is to show the importance of a maintenance management information system and the effects of its implementation on the overall equipment efficiency of the facility in the enterprise based on primary data gathered from a selected company. The data was processed in a case study using information from the maintenance department of the selected enterprise in the plastic-processing industry in selected years (2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010). As it shows, this particular system was intended to provide relevant information to workers responsible for adjusting and repairing machines, as well as to the management of the enterprise in order to help them to make the right decision. The results of the data analysis proved the importance of computerized maintenance management information system (CMMIS) implementation in improving Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) metrics and the efficient control of its production system
The aim of this paper is to give a topical overview of the trends, methods and approaches in respect to employee training in companies by presenting primary and secondary data received from surveys. Based on the findings of scientists and HR specialists, employee training is an important form of company investment that generates additional value and increases a firm's productivity. At the same time, it has an impact on human capital. When training employees, companies can have different motives and use different methods that are described in the first part of this paper. The second part of the paper compares the position of training in European companies and those in the U.S. The last part introduces the methods and reasons for training based on a sample of Czech respondents. The results show that in some Czech companies, the training scheme is not systematic or does not exist at all. In addition, secondary data from the surveys point out that there is a significant number of companies that do not provide any training at all.
Considerable pressure on quality of the business processes, their continual improvement and increasing of their efficiency is reflected in the requirements on graduates of technical universities and hence the educational systems. According to the industrial sector demand the "process" holistic thinking is being more and more discussed. It emphasizes the practical form of the teaching. The current challenge is becoming the Problem Based Learning (PBL) and its potential to gain truly practical experience in solving problematic tasks. PBL is thus getting involved into the teaching plans of more schools. The paper briefly discusses the innovative educational concept of "Learning Company" (EduCom). The concept is based on the current requirements of the industry on recruited employees and introduces the elements of problem-oriented teaching. The aim is to link the selected tutorials into a single project where the outputs of one course are the inputs of another course. The paper describes the existing experience with introducing the concept, its benefits, but also the problems that workers encountered. The planned activities for the development of the described concept will be mentioned as well.
The efficient decision-making process is the key criteria for evaluation of the managers and their future career in the enterprises. In the frame of operation research and operation analysis it is possible to use number of methods and techniques. However considering the up-to-date situation in the enterprises, linear programming is one of the most efficient techniques. It can be used by managers to solve problems considering any manufacturing or logistical problems. Application of the linear programming generally enables the managers to maximize the profit and minimize the costs on the other hand. This contribution presents the results of pilot research focused on the use of operations research methods in business. For this purpose we have contacted 10 companies which deal with the issue of operations research methods. The authors of the contribution primarily took into consideration the linear programming, particularly application and results achieved by this method. The analysis of software tools that can be used in the context of linear programming is also included in the contribution. In the next chapter of the contribution selected example of application of linear programming in a company is presented.
