The study investigated the thermo-physical properties of eugenol encapsulated with beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) by molecular inclusion and eugenol release characteristics at various relative humidities and storage temperatures. Particle size, Zeta-potential, thermal transition and morphology of beta-CD-Eugenol complex after freeze-drying measured using Nanosizer, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. The particle size, Zeta-potential and inclusion efficiency of encapsulated eugenol presented approximately 340 nm, -34.5 mV and 91.7% after freeze-drying, respectively. The relationship between retention rate of eugenol and time during release was described by a mathematical model of Avrami equation. In these events, the parameter of release mechanism and the release rate constant were rapidly elevated with increasing relative humidity and storage temperature. Furthermore, the Arrhenius activation energy for the release of eugenol decreases with increasing relative humidity and storage temperature.
Background: The unprecedented nationwide outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavarius (MERS-CoV) from June to July in 2015 took the Korean healthcare system unexpectedly and created physical and psychological stress and trauma to Registered Nurses unprepared to deal with the viral outbreak. Purpose: We investigated the effects of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and burnout among Korean registered nurses (RNs). Methods: A descriptive cross sectional design using a self-administered survey of a convenience sample of 112 Korean RNs. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised-Korean version (IES-R-K) for PTSD and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) for burnout were utilized. Results: Overall prevalence for symptoms of PTSD was 50.0%. PTSD was significantly correlated to burnout (r = .480, p = .000), especially two burnout subscales, emotional exhaustion (r = .533, p = .000), and depersonalization (r = .497, p = .000). Conclusions: Future anticipatory guidance and management of traumatic outbreak or disaster should be considered for nurses' mental health. Public health and safety at the national level must address quality health outcomes for both patients and healthcare professionals alike.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of emotional labor, professional self-concept, self-efficiency and social support on burnout of emergency room nurses by verifying the level of burnout of them. Through this, we will reduce the turnover and secure professional manpower and they will provide basic data on efficient manpower management. Methods: The subjects of this study were 130 emergency room nurses of eight hospitals in Seoul. The collected datas were analyzed by the SPSS Version 24.0 program using the percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: The level of emotional labor of emergency room nurses was higher than that of other nurses. Professional self-concept, self-efficiency and social support have a negative correlation with burnout and there is a positive correlation between professional self-concept, self-efficiency and social support. The major factors influencing burnout were professional self-concept, which was a significant negative influence factor, emotional labor was a significant positive influence and self-efficiency showed a significant negative influence factor. Conclusions: To reduce the burnout of emergency room nurses, an emotional management program, positive self-concept formation for emergency room nurses are needed. In addition, it is necessary to develop and apply a variety of intervention programs to build policy for long-term working nurse and social support systems.
