INTRODUÇÃOAs variedades Pratão e Iguape Agulha são das mais cul¬ tivadas no Estado de S. Paulo quer pela boa produção quer pela qualidade dos grãos produzidos. Estas variedades, entretanto, não apresentam boa capacidade de brotação após o corte, não per¬ mitindo, a não ser em casos muito especiais, a obtenção de um segundo corte econômico (soqueira).Batatais e Dourado Precoce são as duas variedades pre¬ coces mais importantes em cultura atualmente e, embora menos produtivas que Pratão e Iguape Agulha chegam a produzir normalmente nas culturas irrigadas um segundo corte econômico como foi verificado por LIMA ORSI e GODOY (1961).O objetivo do presente estudo é saber se considerando a produção total por área (1º corte + soqueira) aquelas varieda¬ des precoces seriam mais produtivas que Pratão e Iguape Agulha num único corte.
