El estudio tiene como objetivo repensar, desde una perspectiva transnacional, la construcción identitaria de Rosa Chacel en el primer período de su exilio (1940-1960). Argumento que los ensayos breves que Chacel publica en Sur sobre los autores franceses prominentes de la época (Sartre, de Beauvoir, Caillois, Butor) le ofrecen a Chacel un contexto idóneo para reconstruir y desarrollar su identidad. Mi lectura se hace en el marco teórico de la “escenografía” (Maingueneau), según el que el ensayo persigue su objetivo persuasivo al construir su propia escena de enunciación en la cual interactúan la instancia enunciadora con el destinatario y con otros participantes. Mi análisis destaca que la ubicación del “aquí y ahora” de los ensayos en la escena literaria francesa y la construcción de un destinatario francófilo le permiten a Chacel autoconstruirse en contacto directo con la cumbre de una cultura que goza de gran prestigio en Argentina. La discusión, fuerte y viva, que Chacel entabla con los grandes de la literatura francesa le ofrece la oportunidad de autorretratarse y de dar a conocer su método científico riguroso y su valoración justa y equilibrada de las obras literarias. La literatura francesa, viva y exitosa, hace las preguntas pertinentes que le estimulan a Chacel a desarrollarse como pensadora en el contexto filosófico europeo. En conjunto, sobre la base de las letras francesas, Chacel construye un puente de la sociedad argentina a la escena literaria de París, la capital cultural de la época, para superar su ubicación en el exilio y desplegar la dimensión europea de su identidad.
