ABSTRACT. Existing Spatial OLAP (SOLAP) applications are targeted towards desktop computer environments. In order to enable geospatial decision support in mobility contexts, SOLAP requires some modifications. This paper describes a solution, based on service-oriented architectures and Web services technologies, designed to adapt SOLAP data cubes to the requirements and constraints encountered in mobile computing environments and wireless networks.
This paper proposes a new XML grammar for the exchange of SOLAP data cubes, containing both spatial and descriptive data and metadata. It enables the delivery of the cube schema, dimension members (including the geometry of spatial members) and fact data. The use of this XML format is then demonstrated in the context of a Web Service. Such services can be deployed in various situations, not limited to traditional clientserver platforms, but also ubiquitous mobile computing environments.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
