Este artículo hace referencia al programa desarrollado por el IAPH para la definición y normalización de los estudios previos para garantizar la calidad en los procesos de intervención sobre bienes patrimoniales. Los autores recogen las distintas fases que componen los dos subprogramas en los que se organiza este proyecto: estudios previos y control de calidad
amurallados de la ciudad de Granada, conocidos históricamente como alcazabas y arrabales. Las murallas, de origen árabe y construidas en tapial, constituyen un elemento importante del patrimonio histórico de esta ciudad, que ha perdurado a lo largo de más de diez siglos poniendo de manifiesto su resistencia y durabilidad. Los morteros de cal son componentes fundamentales de estas fábricas, actuando como una capa exterior de protección o como un constituyente esencial del muro
Dentro de la propuesta y descripción llevada a cabo por el Subprograma de Normalización de Estudios Previos del IAPH de las técnicas de análisis y ensayo que se deben utilizar para el conocimiento de los materiales utilizados en Bienes Inmuebles, este artículo se centra en el análisis de la dinámica del agua, como uno de los agentes de degradación más importante que afectan a la durabilidad de los materiales. Es, por tanto, de gran importancia caracterizar y cuantificar el comportamiento hídrico de cualquier material que se haya o pueda ser empleado en la construcción o restauración del Patrimonio Histórico. El estudio de la porosidad (muy ligado al comportamiento hídrico) también resulta de gran interés por varias razones: en ella se produce el almacenamiento y transporte de fluidos y de alguna manera controla las propiedades mecánicas de los materiales.
El Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Histórico inició su actividad en el campo de la restauración de material arqueológico en 1995. En este artículo se transfieren tres de los procesos de intervención llevados a cabo a lo largo de 1997 y 1998. Por un lado, sobre el conjunto de doce piezas de orfebrería fenicio-púnica (siglo IV a.C.), procedente del Museo de Cádiz. En segundo lugar, sobre el escarabeo del yacimiento del Cerro de San Juan (Coria del Río, Sevilla), una pieza de tipo calcáreo, por tanto material lapídeo, con incisiones jeroglíficas. Finalmente, se aborda también la intervención desarrollada en el Togado de Periate, escultura en bronce del siglo III d.C., perteneciente al Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico de Granada, que constituye una de las escasas muestras de bronces romanos de carácter monumental halladas en territorio andaluz, siendo, además, el único retrato realizado en este material descubierto en la Bética que ha llegado hasta nosotros.
