Este artículo es un ejercicio metodológico que vincula la historia y la antropología de las emociones para reflexionar sobre algunos aspectos culturales de la experiencia y la representación de la felicidad entre las clases medias altas de la ciudad de México, en un barrio residencial como es las Lomas de Chapultepec, en el año 2018. Se trata de una investigación de historia cultural, que presenta tres crónicas etnográficas en las que se describen tres “experiencias de lujo” para mostrar la relación que existe entre el consumo y la construcción de dicha emoción entre los sectores sociales privilegiados de nuestro país.El artículo rescata algunas herramientas de la microhistoria y de la etnografía para mostrar cómo la felicidad de estos sectores sociales se construye a partir de una mezcla cultural que integra muchos elementos del estilo de vida burgués norteamericano y global con muchos otros elementos culturales que son herencia de nuestro pasado hispánico colonial.
Este artículo da cuenta de la construcción cotidiana del prestigio y la fama de muchas mujeres que, como la madre Chepa del puerto de Veracruz en el siglo XVIII, ejercieron oficios importantes dentro de sus comunidades. El propósito de este trabajo es mostrar cómo los procesos inquisitoriales siguen siendo fuentes imprescindibles para el microhistoriador de la Nueva España. Si bien, este tipo de documentos ha sido ya muy utilizado por los historiadores de dicha sociedad, este artículo muestra una forma más novedosa para leerlos: las descripciones del físico de muchas personas comunes y corrientes que adquirieron jerarquías particulares dentro de aquel orden social. Identidad, prestigio y feminidad son conceptos claves dentro del texto que a continuación se presenta.
