The teaching and learning of the Architecture and Urbanism college degree course has specific actors that seek constant improvement. This is related to best practices and alignment with society's demands. The architect's responsibility as a designer of the work in its entirety involves aspects of architectural form, structure, processes and construction materials, among others. During the college degreee, the student acquires knowledge of materials through the discipline, theoretical and practical, of Construction Materials. This article aims to present the contribution of the educational practices of this discipline in the Architecture and Urbanism course at UNILASALLE/RJ. As a methodology, a class was accompanied for a semester in which the students got to know and studied the behavior of different materials and developed an Innovation Project that tested, through a prototype, the application of materials researched by the students themselves. Through this practice, the relationship between the educational practice and the formation of skill is verified.
