This study was aimed to determine the thoughts and feelings of nursing students emerging during the provision of care to terminally ill patients. Material and Method: It is a qualitative study. The study population consisted of 12 students who volunteered to participate in the study. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form and focus group interview technique. Descriptive and content analysis techniques were used for the data analyses.
Results:The study found out that the majority of the students defined death as a "sad ending" and "loss". Some students stated that they kept an attitude of acceptance, while others stated that they experienced intense feelings of fear when they encountered death. The students stated that they generally felt sorry for the patient, felt ineffective, and experienced an intensification of their fears of death when providing care for terminally ill patients. Furthermore, all of the students said that terminal care should aim to "minimize pain and provide an abundance of resources".
Conclusion:This study shows that nursing students need to get more education about terminal care and that further qualitative studies should be conducted to investigate the feelings of nursing students from various aspects.
The aim of this study is to determine posttraumatic growth of nursing students during COVID-19 pandemic and the affecting factors. This study is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample of the study consisted of 402 nursing students. The data were collected using a self-report questionnaire and Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory. The analyses showed that there was a significant difference between PTG scores of the students by variables such as gender, economic situation, smoking/alcohol use, having a chronic disease, things enjoyed during the pandemic and the situations in which individuals were most affected during the pandemic. This determination indicates that activities should be included in nursing programs to encourage the students to have more positive developments in their lives.
Although the concept of spirituality is highly individualized and defined by patients in a variety of ways, religious beliefs and values exert a deep influence on how patients perceive illness, make decisions, cope with the burden of the disease, and adhere to treatment. When a person confront disturbance in faith and merit system which have signify life, provides hope and power, boredom appears. The person who has mental health disturbance has problems such as hopeless, powerless, uneasiness with life, disturbance in self-respect and finding life is meaningless. One of the duties of nurses is to support patients to cope with patience experiments and find meaning for life with holistic approach when knowledge and power of patients are fallen short. Spiritual concept, which is one of fundamental concept of holistic care, is as important as person's physical, emotional, social aspect. Research on spiritual wellbeing has suggested that it can directly impact physical and emotional outcomes, and is of great importance to patients. However, by nurses blinding importance of spiritual maintenance, lack of presentation ability for this maintenance, messing religion and spirituality, undesirability of spiritual care or considering an unscientific approach causes ignoring of spiritual care. In this article, there are informations about importance of spiritual care for psychiatry nursing, spiritual needs of individuals, knowledge levels of psychiatry nurses about spiritual needs and psychosocial abilities to give spiritual maintenance.
