Cyberloafing behaviors in education refer to students' behaviors of using technology (e.g., smartphones, laptops, and the Internet) for non-academic purposes during classes. Although there exist many studies on employees' cyberloafing tendency/behaviors, such studies are pretty limited in the field of education. Thus, the main goal of the current study is to investigate undergraduate students' cyberloafing behaviors in terms of instructor and student-related issues. In this qualitative study, the participants consisted of 228 undergraduate students in a state university. The participants were provided with open ended questions related to their possible cyberloafing behaviors. Content analysis was used for data analysis. The results were categorized under four themes: teacher related cyberloafing behaviors, suggestions for minimizing teacher-related cyberloafing behaviors, student related cyberloafing behaviors, suggestions for minimizing student-related cyberloafing behaviors. The results show instructors' communication styles and their teaching preferences lead students to cyberloafing behaviors. Furthermore, students' personal issues and lack of motivation resulted in misbehavior.
The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of drama method on academic achievement and attitude in preschool and primary school in terms of meta-analysis and meta-synthesis in Turkish sample. In this study, a methodological approach was used that combines meta-analysis of quantitative data with qualitative data to present the broadest view of the research on drama method. In order to find the overall effect size at the meta-analysis stage, 67 effect sizes were obtained from 57 empirical studies about the effect of drama method on academic achievement. 25 effect sizes were obtained from 23 empirical studies about the effect of drama method on attitude. Results show that the drama method has a strong effect on academic achievement (d=1,157) and a moderate effect on attitude (d=0,680). The meta-synthesis results reveal that drama affects emotionally, cognitively, socially, linguistically and kinesthetically in the theme of its role on students. In the theme of learning outcomes of drama, it was seen that the drama method provides students active learning, permanent learning, learning with games, learning with fun, cooperative learning and learning from the teacher. It can be said that both the quantitative results obtained through meta-analysis and the qualitative results obtained through meta-synthesis are compatible, consistent and support each other.
Anahtar Kelimeler: Öğretmen Adayları, Metafor, Eğitim, Öğretim, Öğretmen METAPHORICAL PERCEPTIONS OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS TRAINING AND SOME BASIC CONCEPTS ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to identify the perceptions of teacher candidates on the concepts of education, instruction, teacher and teaching profession through metaphors. As a data collection tool, a form consisting of four open-ended questions is made use of. Data is analyzed via content analysis technique. According to results, it is recorded that teachers produced 93 valid metaphors regarding education; 39 regarding the instruction; 102 regarding the teacher and 63 regarding the teaching profession. Teacher candidates associate the concept of education with the metaphors like life, tree, world, home and seed; of the instruction with ones like life, school, tree and water; of the teacher with ones like candle, sun, mother, water, light; of the teaching profession with ones like maternity, prophet hood, faith. Based on the teacher candidates' metaphors, it is seen that they generally explained the concepts of the education and instruction with the same metaphors. It is recognized that the concepts of the education, instruction, teacher and teaching profession are clarified with multiple and different metaphors.
