El objetivo del artículo fue presentar una metodología de conformación de portafolios en empresas ecuatorianas que no cotizan acciones en el mercado bursátil. La investigación aplicó los métodos de análisis de cluster, teoría de Markowitz y el Índice de Sharpe; para la cual se utilizaron los datos de las pequeñas y medianas compañías de Ecuador que se encuentran activas, habiendo extraído previamente aquellas con datos atípicos. Los resultados permitieron evidenciar que la metodología desarrollada permite constituir carteras de inversión que: (a) maximizan el Índice de Sharpe, (b) utilizan la rentabilidad financiera; y, (c) mejoran la selección al complementarse con la técnica de análisis de cluster.
