This study used a pretest-posttest, nonequivalent control group, quasi experimental design to examine the effectiveness of a 12-week, metacognitive and planned happenstance career training course for Taiwanese college students. The treatment groups significantly increased their career competencies in metacognitive, cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions over the comparison and nonequivalent control groups.
Persons labeled as having long-term mental illness are individuals with a diagnosis o f a psychological disorder o f prolonged duration with resulting functional or role incapacity. Historically mental health and vocational rehabilitation programs have not been successful in placing the long-term mentally ill in employment. Supported employment is a model that has been successful for the developmentally disabled and is used now for persons with long-term mental illness. The transitional employment program is a model developed at Fountain House in New York. This paper summarizes the transitional employment model.
