Prinsip-prinsip sirkumsisi adalah asepsis, eksisi yang memadai dari lapisan kulit preputial luar dan dalam, hemostasis, perlindungan glans dan uretra, dan kosmesis. Tujuannya untuk mengekspos glans yang cukup untuk mencegah phimosis atau paraphimosis. Teknik sirkumsisi yang lazim digunakan seperti teknik konvensional (dengan menggunakan pisau dan gunting), maupun teknik sirkumsisi dengan menggunakan electro cauter (kauterisasi). Tingginya minat masyarakat dalam melakukan sirkumsisi dengan menggunakan teknik electrocauter semakin besar karena dipercaya cepat sembuh daripada dengan sirkumsisi dengan teknik konvensional. Oleh karena itu penelitian dilakukan untuk menilai perbandingan kecepatan penyembuhan luka sirkumsisi dengan teknik konvensional dan electrocauter. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah uji independen sample T-Test tidak berpasangan pada acara pengabdian masyarakat khitanan massal di Radio Indah Suara kecamatan Perbaungan. Besar sampel 144 orang (72 orang dilakukan sirkumsisi dengan teknik konvensional dan 72 orang dengan teknik electrocauter) yang memenuhi kriteria. Adapun tingkat penyembuhan luka dinilai dari fase inflamasi, proliferasi dan maturasi, secara makroskopis pada hari ke-6. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa rata-rata penyembuhan luka lebih cepat pada teknik sirkumsisi electro cauter (kauterisasi) yaitu 6.71 hari dibandingkan dengan rata-rata penyembuhan luka pada teknik sirkumsisi konvensional yaitu 7.25 hari dengan nilai Sig.(2-tailed) 0,05 yaitu 0.021. Kecepatan penyembuhan luka sirkumsisi dengan teknik kauter lebih cepat dibandingkan dengan teknik konvensional karena dapat mencapai hemostasis yang lebih baik, dan lebih disukai karena memperpendek prosedur dan mengurangi masalah perdarahan dengan pemakaiannya.
