Industrial symbiosis (IS) is a term used to describe a network of diverse organizations that make use of different byproducts to improve their ability to achieve common goals, improve environmental conditions, and/or improve business and technical processes. In this paper, we propose a model for evaluation of the possibilities of the establishment of such IS on a regional level. This paper studied a benchmark of seven IS examples, which are used to build a qualitative multi-criteria decision model for evaluation of the development of IS network model. Through these examples, where two are the best known IS cases in the world, we demonstrate the importance of social actors' involvement in IS in their industrial or non-industrial technological processes.
This article represents some principal dilemmas and challenges that need to be undertaken when conducting future research on Industrial Symbiotic Networks (ISN) using existing and efficient Computer Software Tools (CS tools). Multidimensional networks in industrial symbiosis have involved two or more stakeholders in sharing services, utility, or by‐products/waste (material, energy, and water) in order to increase value and reduce financial and environmental costs. Multidimensional networks operate as dynamic complex networks, crossing the boundaries and are formed by natural, technical, social, and computer systems. For a better understanding, there is an outline and review of the benefits of using CS tools within managing industrial symbiotic networks.
The trend toward an aging population observed in Slovenia is one of the major problems as in other developed countries within the European Union. The goal of the paper was to analyse the state of the art of the field, and suggest a potential set of variables for measurement instruments with appropriate Social Gerontology (SG) competencies for educational programs. Using the mixed method approach, the aim of the paper was to observe and suggest the most (1) needed, (2) desired, and (3) obtained SG competencies for Higher Education Institutions. The results of analysis and measurements indicate how the opinion of our respondents intersects with 40 national factors recognized by gerontological social workers. We than categorized geathered data into ten factors, which represent potential set of variables for a new measurement instrument, showing frequencies that are proportional to the importance perceived by our respondents. Our preliminary research questions are: (1) Which (social and non-social) competencies are included in existing study programmes in Slovenia? (2) Which competencies are recognized by experienced workers as most important for enabling (future) students to effectively work with the elderly?
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
