Evaluating digital games is challenging since success is defined by enjoyment and gameplay experience, two factors that are hard to measure. While several works presented methods to analyze these factors, it is rare to find studies that evaluate the impact that the input methods (gamepads, touch, keyboards) have on the experience. We now introduce an exploratory user experience and usability study that compares two radically different game controllers: a mobile touch-based controller and a traditional gamepad, using subjective and objective user data. Results of this exploratory study indicate that while the general user experience and usability were similar with both controllers, the physiological measures indicate that the emotions differ between interfaces. In our final thoughts, we provide insights about how to evaluate and compare the experience with game controllers.
Context: Before starting the development of a final thesis, there areseveral challenges for both faculty advisors and university students. For professors, notoriously, there is the great challenge of findingstudents who want to participate in the development of their academicprojects. For students, the difficulty of finding projects orteachers who want to work on their ideas is recurrent. Objective:The goal of this work is to propose and evaluate a tool called Plugue,to support the project-based learning approach and manage topicideas projects in the academic community. Method: A survey with82 Brazilian academic students and professors was conducted tocollect information about the perception of the utility, perceptionof use, and intention to use the tool using the TAM3 model. Ananalysis of the collected data was conducted according to exploredata and generate results. Results: We identified the characteristicsof participants, current scenario, and perceptions of utility, use, andintended use according to the level of agreement of participants. Conclusions: Our study indicates that the approaches used and thefeatures of the Plugue tool are promising and suitable for highereducation and confirm the need for the tool for universities.
Context: Public Higher Education Institutions adopt managerialtechnological innovations to respond to their demands. However, some systems may or may not partially meet the institution’s needs, making system acceptance and university management difficult. Objective: The goal of this work is to evaluate the usability andsatisfaction of an institution’s Information System and Project Management(SIGProj) in the context of the university extension andpropose a new system to maximize system usage. Method: for evaluation, empirical methods were used: (i) System Usability Scale(SUS) and NBR ISO/IEC 9126 quality model for the current SIGProj, and (ii) Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for the evaluation ofthe proposal system during a workshop with expert users. Results:The results indicate low usability of the current SIGProj, highlightingthe need to prioritize design and usability. Nonetheless, was ahigh perception of acceptance, adoption and intention to use thesystem proposed. Conclusions: We concluded, therefore, that theresult of our work can contribute to a more adequate, innovativeand promising development of a project management system foruniversity extension.
