Comme dans les secteurs social et médicosocial, la qualité des interventions est devenue pour la protection de l’enfance un enjeu prioritaire, selon des modalités et avec des outils inspirés du secteur sanitaire. Cette préoccupation pour la qualité se matérialise notamment dans le développement de procédures d’évaluation interne et externe, lancées à la demande des pouvoirs publics. Cet article s’appuie sur une enquête de terrain menée dans trois associations du secteur ayant mis en place une démarche qualité et mené un processus d’évaluation de leur organisation. Elle met en évidence les facteurs de réussite de ces démarches ainsi que les freins potentiels. Alors que les auteurs s’attendaient à rencontrer une réticence de la part des professionnels de terrain à l’égard de l’évaluation de la qualité, ce sont plutôt les cadres intermédiaires qui ont freiné ces démarches, en raison de leur manque de formation et de compétences organisationnelles insuffisantes.
