Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are increasing in neonatal intensive care units. We determined the economic impact of isolating and cohorting MRSA colonized neonates on total hospital cost at a 49 bed, level III-IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Human lymphocyte CYP2E1 mRNA levels may be useful predictors of alcohol-mediated alterations in hepatic CYP2E1 activity. Moreover, ethnicity does not appear to play a major role in the levels of expression of lymphocyte CYP2E1.
Premature infants are at increased risk of developing airway hyper-reactivity (AHR) after oxidative stress and inflammation. Mast cells contribute to AHR partly by mediator release, so we sought to determine whether blocking mast cell degranulation or recruitment prevents hyperoxia-induced AHR, mast cell accumulation, and airway smooth muscle (ASM) changes. Rats were exposed at birth to air or 60% O 2 for 14 d, inducing significantly increased AHR in the latter group, induced by nebulized methacholine challenge and measured by forced oscillometry.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
