Varios artículos dentro de la literatura de la odontología se han preocupado por la longevidad de las restauraciones provisionales, debido a que en ocasiones es necesario que permanezcan por periodos largos en uso dentro de la cavidad bucal, esto hace necesario que los materiales con los que se realizan tengan que ser de una calidad y resistencia mayor. El propósito de este trabajo fue determinar, si incrementando la temperatura durante la fase de polimerización, y añadiendo fibra de polietileno a la resina acrílica de polimetilmetacrilato, y a la resina bis-acrílica, incrementa la resistencia flexural de estos materiales. Se dividieron las muestras de los materiales en 8 grupos, en algunos especímenes se añadió la fibra de polietileno, y se colocaron en agua a una temperatura de 60°C, y otros a 23°C; se prensaron las muestras esperando el autopolimerizado. Obteniendo como resultado, que la resina bis-acrílica sin fibra a una temperatura ambiente de 23°C es más resistente, que cuando se le añade fibra a la misma temperatura, y que cuando se aumenta la temperatura a 60°C en agua, estando la fibra presente o no, sin embargo el hecho de colocar fibra en las muestras en ambos materiales impide que al fracturarse se tenga un resultado “catastrófico” separando ambos segmentos.
