Etymologisk set kommer ordet gastronomi af det græske ‘gaster’, der betyder mave, og det græske ‘nomia’, der betyder kyndig eller kundskab, og betyder derfor egentlig ‘læren om maven’. Det kommer også det græske ‘nomos’, der betyder regler eller love, hvorfor gastronomi også forståes normativt. Kulturhistorisk set handler gastronomi derfor om hvordan mennesker spiser og lever bedst. Denne artikel foreslår følgelig gastronomi som et frugtbart sted, at udforske og tænke over de mangeartede sociale og sanselige fornøjelser der er ved at spise og leve ‘godt’. Med denne artikel forslår jeg begrebet ‘reparative praksisser’ som en måde at nytænke og aktualisere netop den mangeartet levedygtighed og trivsel som dét at spise og leve godt baserer sig på. Baseret på et kollaborativt og mangeartet etnografisk studie med et hønseri, spørger jeg, hvad det vil sige, at tage hønen seriøst som en gastronomisk socialitet, og overvejer hvordan menneske-hønse samarbejdet udfolder sig i den konkrete husdyrs-relation, hvori æggene, kyllinge- og hønsekødet bliver til. Artiklen undersøger bondens og hønsenes omsorgpraksisser, og det modstandsarbejde, der opstod som følge her af. Slutteligt foreslår jeg, at praktisere og forske i gastronomi som et mere-end-menneskeligt omsorgsarbejde.
