Sustainable development is a very interesting issue to study, with the emergence of sustainable development in 2015 this has become even sturdier. Environmental problems are one of the 17 goals of sustainable development, which is a consideration aspect for country or region in improving social and economic sectors. Ecotourism emerged in an effort to solve various overlapping problems in realizing development. The purpose of this study is to determine the contribution made by ecotourism in realizing sustainable development on Pulau Merah Beach, Banyuwangi. Pulau Merah Beach has applied the concept of ecotourism to support sustainable development goals. This can be seen from the results of interviews, observations and documentation that we have done. Result of collaboration between site managers and business owners makes Pulau Merah Beach visitor’s rise, which indirectly increases the amount of revenue for tourism site which was managed by the local government and following with direct impact felt by business owners at the Pulau Merah Beach.
The institutional economics perspective, the local wisdom paradigm, the qualitativeinterpretative paradigm, is used to conceptually reconstruct the existence of institutional economics and local wisdom of the coastal community of Muncar Banyuwangi village. The life of the coastal community of Muncar has redefined the existence of the coastal economy in an evolutionary manner. This coastal community has a different typology from spaces whose cultural wisdom identities become local identities. The community group has a different economic culture that is influenced by institutions and norms, power structures, community tacit knowledge of the coastal and marine environment,. Coastal community stereotypes emerge in regulating and managing the area and the community uses a lot of power structure in the management of harmony with nature (the sea). Forms of management that are formed through local economic institutions, among others, appear in the division of tasks, collateral cooperation (horizontal) with dependence on others (mutual cooperation) and strengthening the norms and social values that apply in this society. This new local paradigm gave birth to the transcendental behavior of the people inherent in the economic activities of catching and processing sea fish. The coastal area which is a fish production center is dominated by traditional capture fish processing with a natural management system.
The tragedy of commons exists where natural common resources are overused. Every user is encouraged to maximize their utilization by taking as much as they can, left environment’s ability to regenerates behind. As a result, there will be a decreasing result. The condition exists in Muncar in Banyuwangi, Indonesia. This coastal area has to accommodate an increasing number of fishing fleets with more advanced technology, which creates a diminishing volume in fishing catches. This research explores the tragedy of commons in Muncar, Indonesia. We use the qualitative approach with the phenomenological interpretative paradigm. We interviewed stakeholders as well as fishermen in Muncar. The result of this study (1). The increasing number of fishing fleets are accompanied with more advanced technology. This allows fishermen to catch fish in higher volume. Also, there is a negligence in environment-friendly concern because of economic reason. (2). The tragedy of commons is caused by unclear regulation about fish regulation along the Muncar Coastal Area. The development of infrastructure in Muncar is not well equipped with adequate utilities such as disposal waste facilities. Also, the development of industrial zones in Muncar is not well planned.
Kemiren village is well known today as one of the tourist destinations that has a distinctive appeal to the culture of the Osing tribe, which is one of the tribes found on Java. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of community-based rural tourism (CBRT) activities with an approach to the economic, socio-cultural and natural environment dimensions associated with the quality of life of residents in Kemiren village. The results of the research conducted show that tourism activities in the area have been able to become a source of income for most households in order to improve the standard of living of the Kemiren villagers. However, the development of tourism activities that occurs has an impact on changes in the livelihoods of local residents because of the high profits obtained from tourism activities. Increased job opportunities have also led to a high flow of people working there. Protection of the environment is seen as not a priority in relation to tourism activities in development carried out by local governments. However, Kemiren village’s resident still have high concern and are actively involved in preserving the environment. Local people believe in development of tourism activities will impact their welfare.
