The aim of this chapter is to describe the background for school meals in the municipality of Copenhagen and to report on how school meals are organized, the importance of school meals for pupils, and how school meals constitute a central element in the municipal food and meal policy to promote climate-friendly food and less food waste. Additionally, the chapter relates the increased focus on the meal as community and social leverage utilized by the municipality. Furthermore, the chapter includes findings from an investigation into the role and importance of school meals. The authors, who are also employees of ‘Team Skolemad’, carried out the investigation as part of internal evaluation practices.
