Cataract is a common condition in retinitis pigmentosa eyes. This review aims at exploring the particulars of cataract extraction in retinitis pigmentosa eyes.
Introduction: Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is an immunosuppressant widely used by rheumatologists in treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and other conditions. Methods: Literature review on reasons why HCQ is commonly prescribed, its side effects and when it is practical to screen for them and what happen if those side effects develop. Conclusion: Hydroxychloroquine is a disease modified medicine used in rheumatologic diseases. Since retinal toxicity is normally irreversible and progressive even after cessation of medicine, it essential to screen for early feature of retinal toxicity.
Intravitreal injection of steroid was first introduced to prevent inflammatory reaction following retinal detachment surgery. Since then it has been use for different condition with inflammatory process at the back of the eye. However, the side effects of steroids in general made their use limited specially with the last few years introduction anti-endothelial vascular growth factor injection.
Purpose/Aim of the study: Authors planned to study articles published in 2018 to find out the latest update on this rare condition. Materials and Methods: Pubmed search was conducted with 2018 in focus as a year of publication including only articles on humans and in English language. Results: out of 22 articles published in 2018, only 7 were found relevant on human subjects and in English language. Conclusions: Newer treatment modalities were tried in 2018 as well as the old well approved modalities.
Purpose: Amblyopia is a leading cause of preventable visual impairment which can have consequences on psychosocial wellbeing. This study aims to find out the prevalence of amblyopia reported in 2018. Methods: Pubmed was searched for amblyopia prevalence. Relevant articles were reviewed. Results: Amblyopia prevalence was reported as high as 17.2 of children screened in one study. Discussions: Prevalence rate of amblyopia can vary significantly between countries as well as certain communities in the same country.
