As condições ambientais de nosso planeta vêm se degradando rapidamente, muito em virtude das grandes quantidades de resíduos gerados ao redor do mundo. O Brasil é o 4º maior gerador de resíduos, e, somando-se a isso sua baixa taxa de reciclagem (1,28%), percebe-se que a abordagem da educação ambiental nas escolas é cada vez mais urgente. É essencial que essa temática seja trabalhada desde a infância, utilizando abordagens que sejam capazes de atrair os jovens, gerando engajamento e participação. Neste contexto, o uso de metodologias ativas aliadas a abordagens que promovam a criatividade surge como uma alternativa com potenciais benefícios. O presente trabalho trata-se de um relato de experiência a respeito de um projeto de extensão realizado junto a estudantes de 3º a 5º ano do ensino fundamental de uma escola pública do município de XXXXX/RS, que teve como objetivo trabalhar a educação ambiental através de atividades que incentivem a criatividade. Foram realizados 8 encontros nos quais era realizado um debate sobre temas relacionados aos 3 R’s (Reduzir, Reutilizar e Reciclar), seguido de uma atividade dinâmica e uma conversa final sobre o tema trabalhado. Notou-se grande engajamento dos estudantes nas atividades realizadas, além de se perceber que estes construíram reflexões muito positivas acerca das temáticas trabalhadas. Junto à educação ambiental, a criatividade foi incentivada e desenvolvida, fato muito positivo, pois sabe-se que ela é muito importante na vida adulta, tanto no âmbito pessoal como profissional. Por fim, pode-se afirmar que os objetivos foram alcançados e que projetos de extensão como este, que trabalham assuntos diversos de forma interdisciplinar, podem ser aplicados com sucesso em diversos temas relacionados à educação ambiental.
