BACKROUND: The early management for distress, depression, and anxiety in breast cancer patients can help improves quality of life that adherence patients to cancer treatment. AIM: This study aimed to describe the prevalence and risk factors of anxiety and depression symptomatology of breast cancer patients in the inpatients and outpatient settings. METHODS: This study used a research and development study design. The study was conducted in at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo the Medical Oncology Clinic in Pristina from August to October 2021. The total sample in this study consisted of 50 female breast cancer patients diagnosed at least 6 months before the date of assessment, aged 18 and above, able to communicate in Albanian, signed an informed consent form, negative history of other malignancies, and absence of any temporary acute illness affecting psychological well-being while filling the questionnaire. Questionnaire used in our study is Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale for assessing anxiety and depression in breast cancer patients. RESULTS: For anxiety score, some of them were caseness level with 82%, while 26% of study participants were in borderline, 6% in caseness, and some of them were in normal level from 68% on the depression score. The patients feel tense or wound up with 44% Mean/SD (14.67 ± 6.02), about feeling afraid that something terrible will happen and patients may have this feel Mean/SD (13 ± 1.66). Over half of them had the feeling of fear as if something awful is about to happen Mean/SD (11.33 ± 4.03) and that the feeling of fear as if they had “butterflies” in the stomach of 62% had the feeling sometimes, beautiful often, and very often Mean/SD (10.33 ± 4.92). CONCLUSION: The results indicate that it is very important to measure the level of anxiety and depression in women with breast cancer, which are two common mental disorders in breast cancer.
Introduction: Patient education can be defined as the process of improving knowledge and skills in order to influence the attitudes and behaviour required to maintain or improve health or health style. Aim: Education of the patients living with heart disease from ambulatory nurse education for the effectiveness on awareness on life style. Methods: A quasi experimental study was conducted in Specialist Cardiology Ambulance D&D in Pristina among 100 patients. A complete clinical and laboratory measurements before and after the process of patient education (at 30, 60 and 90 days) were performed. The clinical outcome was nutrition, body mass index, blood pressure, lipid, diabetic profile and physical activity. The pre-post tested (validity, reliability and pilot testing) structured questionnaire were used for data collection. Results: All patients underwent education sessions by an experienced education nurse on 30, 60 and 90 days. At 90 days follow up, the BMI was decreased: Pre-education (29.01±5.46), Post-education (27.72±4.71), t- 5.999 p<0.0001, glycaemic level Pre-education (6.50±2.15) and Post-education (6.02±1.63), t- 4.157, p<0.0001 was decreased, HbA1c in Pre-education (6.23±2.06) and Post-education (5.72±1.44) t- 4.036 p<0.0001 respectively. The lipid profile was also changed at the 90 days follow-up: cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-C were decreased (p<0.0001 for all), whereas HDL-C was increased (p<0.0001), by educational program at 90 days follow up. Whereas, blood pressure remains unchanged. Conclusion: Heart disease management programme where patient’s education is an important component, have been shown to be effective in increasing knowledge, self-care and self-management patients living with heart disease.
AIM: The aim of this study was to identify the reasons why students that attending nursing study program decide to choose this study program for their future. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study on students at University of Shkodra “Luigj Gurakuqi” in Albania and University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina,” in Kosovo, during October–November 2021. The students that participated attended the bachelor study program in nursing and program of professional master. Data collection was done using a questionnaire with closed and opened questions. Student’s opinions were collected through a self-administered online questionnaire. The survey was administered using the Google Forms® platform, performed in classroom and was anonymous. To analyze the sample, it was used the exact Fisher’s Test, Pearson’s correlation R and ꭓ² test. RESULTS: The study included 376 students which 259 from Albania and 117 from Kosovo. 335 were female and 41 males. 195 of students were from urban area and 181 from rural area. 130 students were at the 1st year of studies, 98 at the 2nd year, 100 of 3rd year, and 48 students attend professional master’s degree. About 66% of students have chosen nursing program because it is easy to find a job and 81.6% of students think that by choosing the nursing study program, they can make a career. About 82.2% of students have chosen the nursing study program because they can ensure a satisfactory economic level. More than 77% of students think that finding a job as a nurse is easy and for 75% of students nursing program has been the first choice. About 88.3% of students say they have chosen to continue their studies in nursing because they believe they can be employed after completing their studies in European Union countries. About 97.1% of students chose this program because they feel valuable in helping people with health needs. In our study, we have evidenced that 58.8% of all students would like to work in Germany. CONCLUSIONS: Students choose the bachelor study program in nursing mainly to be able to easily secure a job, for a career, to help people with health problems and to secure an employment in the countries of the European Union. The same reasons evidenced in two student’s group from two universities.
