SirWe are aware of the work from Dr Cainzos' department and feel that it has made an important contribution to the understanding of alteration in immune function in jaundiced patients. Our Review concentrated specifically on experimental and clinical aspects of biliary rfruinuge for obstructive jaundice. Our first table summarized published series of preoperative biliary drainage. Since Dr Cainzos' publication relating to biliary drainage dealt with the recovery of cellular immunity with relief of jaundice 'either spontaneously or as a result of surgery', it was not appropriate to include it in this table. Our second table related to endoscopic. percutaneous and surgical palliation of malignant biliaryobstruction and it was, again, not appropriate toinclude hisdata.
